CAPTAIN : Paul PORTER (31)
Paul Porter, 29, has had a love for life on the water since a very young age – sailing, surfing, competitive kite boarding and scuba diving. Being near or on the water has always been of great importance to him. Captaining boats up to 65 feet and hosting guests aboard is second nature to him. In 2010, Paul acquired the S/V Seaker, an Islander 30 moored in Seattle, Washington. After six years of ownership he has restored her from the keel up, learning many useful skills along the way. Paul has had the opportunity to lead sailing charters alongside his chef, first mate Eva Mrak-Blumberg in their home waters of the Puget Sound to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Sweden and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. You can also find Paul and Eva sailing the US Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands year round aboard S/V Pelican, a 58ft catamaran based out of Saint Thomas.
When not living a nautical life, Paul works in New York City as a documentary photographer and lighting director in the fashion industry. He is also a well recognized teacher of outdoor photography, kiteboarding and sailing who happily shares his knowledge and experience to guest on board.
CHEF / MATE : Kristen BERG (31)
Kristen grew up in Colorado. She grew up hiking, camping and skiing and will tell you that her love of the outdoors was set in stone at birth. Visiting Hawaii every year as a child led to her love of the water. She was a certified Open Water Diver by the age of 14.
Kristen is no stranger to the galley. She has always loved cooking and has worked in or around professional kitchens since she was 16. In fact, after finishing college and Colorade State University, she worked with celebrity chef Tyler Florence in the Bay Area of California where she helped him open three different restaurants and two different stores. Working closely with the chefs as well as the Sommelier’, she gained a very firm grasp of what it takes to make an amazing meal with top notch service!
Surfing, sailing, snorkeling and being near the ocean are some of her earliest and fondest memories. That, combined with her love of gourmet cuisine ultimately led her to where she is and what she is doing… Hosting, guiding and spoiling the guests aboard Pelican!
